Arsenal battles United for EPL 3rd position

Chelsea may have won the English Premier League title, but the battle of who finishes 3rd and who goes to play the UEFA champions league play-off next season between Arsenal and Manchester United grows thicker.

Arsenal are at advantage over the Loius van Gaal side, with 2 points ahead of the Red Devils and a match at hand while United are currently 4th on the league table having amassed 68 points from 36 games.

But tomorrow's game is a must win for Van Gaal if he must put pressure on Arsene Wenger and his men, who are hoping to finish 3rd this time after about 8 seasons of finishing fourth behind the likes of Manchester united, Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City.

"At the moment we are focused on finishing as high as we can and finishing the season well. After that we will deal with the consequences," said Wenger, whose side are in the FA Cup final against Aston Villa on May 30.

"We know we are in the top four. We know we can do better, so let's go for it."

Wenger added: "At the end of the day, the team who finishes fifth would love to have that tension, so we cannot complain.

"We have had to deal with that for a few years now and if we can get straight into the competition it would be better."

Wenger has played 35 games this season, winning 21, drawing 7 and losing seven whereas, Van Gaal has played 36 games already, winning 20, drawing and losing 8 respectively.

United have just one more game this season after Arsenal's clash tomorrow, and that will against relegated Hull, while the Gunners will still play Sunderland, West Bromwich Albion after United.

The battle for relegation is almost completed as Queens park Rangers and Burnley have been confirmed, leaving Hull City to fight for a spot in the English topflight next season, but that may have to be at the detriment of Newcastle United, who are just two points clear of Hull in the 17th position on the log.
