Two-time Caf champions league champions, Enyimba have debunked rumours claiming that Mfon Udoh has stroke, and the Aba warlords have described the report as “entirely false and misleading”
The striker, who pulled out of the Super Eagles training camp ahead of their clash against the Le Sao of Chad which Nigeria won by 2-0 hasn't returned to action and the club revealed that his absence is only due to some infection after their NPFL game against Ifeanyi Ubah.
“Mfon Udoh suffered a bout of common cold just after our game against FC Ifeanyi Ubah in Nnewi on May 3. He consulted our medical unit and was given the right medication. This kept him out of the team that hosted Giwa FC a week later,” Enyimba said on their website.
“When he had not recovered fully ahead of the game against Dolphins, he was referred to Wimpole Clinic in Aba, one of the medical centres we partner with, for observation by Dr. Onyeike Kalu.
“It was under intense scrutiny and after tests had been conducted that it was discovered that Udoh’s cold had caused him facial nerve palsy, or Bell’s palsy, as it’s also called. This illness causes the loss of some facial movement, due to nerve damage. Facial muscles droop and become weak on a side of the face.
“It is believed that this infection is the cause of his facial nerve palsy, but we are pleased to announce that he has made great recovery and will be with the team soon, doing what he loves best.”
The statement said at no time was Udoh paralysed.
“He remains active and has kept in touch with our team doctor, Ferdinand Ajere, who manages his physical therapy. In a matter of days, Udoh will resume normal training with the rest of the team,” the Aba club added. Punch
