Nigeria's Super Eagles have moved up two spots to rank 43rd best footballing country in the world and 7th best in the African continent.
Nigeria were unable to defend the title they wonin south Africa at the 2015 edition of the championship in Equitorial Guinea, and since then had been on the downward trend, most especially when the impact of the Eagles was not felt at the FIFA world cup in Brazil last.
The 2013 Afcon champions who are still in the rebuilding process, and are getting ready to host Chad in the 2017 Afcon qualifiers in Kaduna were 45th in the last edition of the FIFA rankings following their woeful performances against Uganda and South Africa.
Meanwhile, Algeria maintains their top position in Africa and 21st in the world followed by the 2015 Afcon champions, Ivory Coast, whose coach has picked up a club job in France.
Tunisia are 3rd behind Algeria and Ivory Coast, and are 29th in the world.
