Puerto Rico's Adriana Diaz has admitted that coming back from 2-1 to beat Nigeria's Olufunke Oshonaike 4-2 at the ongoing Rio Olympics women's table tennis event was tough, adding that the victory will help project the game well in her country.
The 15 year old, who won gold at the Latin American Championships U21 event this year edged Oshonaike out in the first round the games.
Diaz drew the first blood, winning the first game 11-7, but Oshonaike leveled up in the second game, beating the Puerto Rican 7-11 and then went to clinch the third game 4-11.
Diaz regained her balance, win her next three games 11-7, 11-5, 11-2 to complete a 4-2 come back in the game and book a ticket to the next round.
"I tried to stay calm and started to attack with my forehand, because she uses pimples on her backhand and I am not good against that style."
"I feel in my country, because there are many people shouting and supporting. That encourages me to shout and celebrate with them. I am very happy that they are here, because Table Tennis isn’t very popular in my country."
