Nigeria's Segun Toriola has disclosed that he was delighted to have ended Czech Republic's Dimitrij PROKOPCOV's three-game dominance over him, saying his victory in Sarurday's game was the first time he would ever beat the 36 year old.
Toriola, who is participating in his seventh Olympic Games since making his debut in 1992 beat
Prokopcov 4-2 (8-11, 11-6, 11-8, 9-11, 11-8, 11-8) at the ongoing men's table tennis event in Rio to progress to the next round of the games.
The 41-year old Ilorin born athlete has equalled most number of Olympic appearance as table tennis legends Jorgen PERSSON (SWE), Jean-Michel SAIVE (BEL) and Zoran PRIMORAC (CRO).
Toriola said after the game: "I’ve played him in the French League three times and I’ve lost every time."
"Today I felt confident before the match, I played without any fear. My first attack was strong and he made mistakes, the main problem for me was that I made mistakes when playing short."
