Nigeria's Aruna Quadri has thanked the Brazilian fans for their unstaggering support after reaching the quarter finals of the men's singles table tennis event at the ongoing Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil.
Aruna became the first African to achieve such massive feat after beating former number one, Timo Boll 4-2 in on Monday night to give himself a perfect birthday gift.
The 2014 world player of the year went three games up, but the current world current world number
thirteen gained momentum and picked game number five and six, to bring the score line to 3-2, and Quadri, whose eyes are on the prize, shocked the world by ousting Boll in the sixth to end the game 4-2 in the Men’s Singles Round of 16.
"This is amazing! I don’t know what to say. My fans made me do this. Thank you for all the Brazilian spectators for their support."
"They gave me so much energy. This feels so good, it is a dream come true that I am in the quarterfinals," said the world number 40 after his spectacular win.
27-year old Quadri will now face the current world number one, Ma Long, China in the quarter finals of the men's singles table tennis event in Rio, Brazil.
Quadri is also the last Nigeria standing in the ping pong game.
