Rio Olympics: Solomon Dalung Labels Nigeria U23 Heroes After Sweden Victory

Following their qualification to the quarter final stage of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil, Nigeria’s Youth and Sports Minister, Solomon Dalung, has labelled the Nigeria U23 national team heroes, saying they are the first to reach last eight of the men's football event.

The Minister, who denied the Dream Team VI while they were in Atlanta, USA for their training tour,
also used that opportunity to apologise to the entire team,  for the fiasco that led to the contingent’s late arrival to Brazil.

Dalung met with the team in the dressing room after their 1-0 triumph over Sweden at the Arena Amazonia, saying he takes full responsibility for all the shameful things that took place during that period.

After hugging and exchanging pleasantries with players and officials, Barrister Dalung said: "I want to apologize for all the circumstances that led to your late arrival here. I apologize because I am the head and as such I must take responsibility for anything that happens under my watch.

The minister couldn't hide his excitement at the feat the team has achieved in Brazil and he said that: "I’m happy you all have put the unfortunate incident behind you and have shown that you are true heroes by making the country proud with your qualification for the quarter finals. This qualification is unique as you guys are the first team to do so in the football event."

Speaking further, the Sports Minister disclosed: "I want to assure you that we appreciate your efforts, and I want to say that it's when a man faces challenges that his true ability is tested. I am sure we all have learnt our lessons and will take the lessons to heart going forward."
