Arsene Wenger unsure of Alexis ahead of North London Derby

Fifth place Arsenal football club will hope to improve on their standing on the English Premier League table this afternoon as they travel to the Whitehart Lane for their North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur.

Arsenal whitewashed confused Aston Villa 5-0 last weekend, making it their third EPL victory on a row which will make the Arsene Wenger-led side go into today's game with confidence of repeating their feat away from home.

The last game the Gunners lost was in week 20 when they slipped 0-2 away to Southampton, who are still contending for the top four spot as the league winds down.

The Emirate side will go into the week 24 fixture with 42 points from the already 23 games played, and will be hoping to avoid defeat as any slip up on the side of the Gunners will see their opponent rise above them on the league table.

Tottenham have also won three of their last four games in the second half of the season, as they stunned Chelsea 5-3 earlier in the year, lost to Alan Pardew's Crystal Palace and then went ahead to win their two remaining games.

"These games are high intensity and high intensity is dictated by how well you prepare mentally and how well you’re ready physically. I believe that on both sides that we will be ready." - Arsène Wenger

"I believe what has changed in [Santi] is that he’s a very good player now offensively and defensively. Since he has moved into the middle he can bring these qualities to the team and of course his technical ability always helps you to get out of pressure.

"Santi knows he’s an important player as well - that helps you gain confidence. What people forget is that there’s a huge passion for him about the game. You feel that he’s happy on the pitch and that he wants to play, he wants the ball no matter what. I always like the player who wants the ball when it’s 0-0 in the first 10 minutes, as much as when you win 3-0."

Rosicky, an emphatic matchwinner at White Hart Lane last season, will vie for a starting place with Cazorla and Mesut Ozil. Further forward, Danny Welbeck is back in contention after a thigh injury, but Alexis is still recovering from a hamstring problem.

Away from the North London derby today, Chelsea will travel to Aston Villa, who are still healing from the 5-0 spanking they got from Arsenal last weekend.

The Jose Mourinho led side, who just acquired the services of Colombian star, Juan Cuadrado from Fiorentina, after selling Andre Schurrle and loaning Mohammed Salah to Italy still occupies the summit of the league table, and will hope to extend their lead with a victory at the Villa park.

But, according to stats, it has always been hard for Chelsea to record victory against Aston Villa, who lies close to the relegation zone, and if they are not careful, they might be playing in the championship next season.

EPL defending champions, Manchester City also transacted during the winter window transfer, acquiring the services of Ivory Coast's Wilfried Bony from Swansea City but is still at the African Cup of Nations championship, where himself and Yaya Toure have helped their side progress to the final of the tournament.

Man City hopes to turn their lots around as they have struggled with the absence of the four time African Football player of the year, Yaya, as they fell 0-2 to Arsenal and played a 1-1 draw against Chelsea and Everton in their last three games.
