Governor Fashola sends condolence message to the family of Chief Okota-Thomas

The Lagos State Governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola, has sent a condolence note to the family of the Asoju Oba of Lagos, Chief Molade Okoya-Thomas, who passed away at the age of seventy-five.

Chief Okoya, in his love for sports gave a lot of talented Table Tennis players a platform to show to the world how talented they are, with prizes won at the end of the competitions.

He championed the Asoju-Oba Table Tennis competition which has been on in Lagos State for a long time now.

The Governor explained in the letter sent to Mrs Abosede Okoya-Thomas, that he personally will be affected by the passing of Chief Okoya-Thomas and to Lagos State, adding that both he and the people of Lagos had been the beneficiaries of the great wisdom and philanthropy of Okoya-Thomas over the years.

“It was with great sorrow that my family and I heard of the passing of your husband, Chief Molade Okoya Thomas, the Asoju Oba of Lagos and a great statesman. In the years I knew him, his moral and physical strength, and his dedication to service were an inspiration to me,” he wrote.

The Governor said that Lagos State was indeed lucky because the state felt his impact in various sectors, “especially in education, where he was, until his death, Chancellor of Lagos State University, and Sport, for which he was a great patron.

“I have very fond personal memories of Chief Okoya-Thomas. He was always blunt when dishing out his sage advice but I knew it was because he genuinely cared about the welfare and progress of the State and its people.

“History will remember Chief Molade Okoya-Thomas as a great philanthropist. His legacy will live on because he made his mark in the private and public sectors and in the lives of numerous individuals,” Governor Fashola said. channelstv
