Super Eagles manager, Stephen Keshi has admitted that the summer is the only time players have to rest but that whoever gets invited to the Eagles camp ahead of the 2017 African Cup of Nations in Gabon must exhibit discipline.
Keshi returned as the nation's national team head coach last month, just about three weeks before his side's game against Chad in the AFCON 2017 qualifiers in June, after failing to defend the title they won in 2013 in Equitorial Guinea in January.
The former Mali and Togo boss said that he hopes all the players will put sentiments aside and make Nigeria glorious again, just like they did in 2013.
“The summer time is the most difficult period you want to ask players to come and play competitive games. But I want them to be very disciplined during that period because I know they will want to go crazy and have the rest they deserve,” Keshi told Complete Sports.
“But I will be talking with the players that will be invited on the need for them to be disciplined to the cause and also remind some of them where we found ourselves months back and what goals are set to be achieved.
“If you are a top professional, if you are not a selfish person, if you put the team in front of yourself and if you are here to work 100 percent for me, for your fellow players and for the team, then we will have a wonderful relationship,” he said.
Nigeria will also contend with Egypt in the group, where the top team earns automatic qualification for Gabon 2017. The two second best teams from all the other groups will also qualify.
