Elite level athletes in tennis have extraordinary bank balances yet it may surprise some that the richest individual in the tennis industry is not an active athlete, but Ion Tiriac who has a net worth of £1.2bn.
A Romanian businessman, Tiriac used to be a former ice hockey pro and tennis player in the late 1960s.
Here we compile a list of the highest earning tennis players who are still competing – who do you think makes number one?
9: Caroline Wozniacki (£6.8m)
A former world number one, Wozniacki is yet to win a major title but has twice reached the final of the US Open and has 23 career titles.
Wozniacki, just 24-years old, received her fortune last year in endorsements rather than prize money.
8: Kei Nishikori (£6.9m)
Nishikori is the only male Japanese tennis player to ever be ranked inside the top ten list of ATP singles athletes.
The 25-year-old, like Wozniacki, has never won a major, however, he has received far more in prize money with 82% of his 2014 earnings made through tournament successes.
7: Victoria Azarenka (£7m)
Belarussian baseline expert Azarenka is the first major winner on this list as the 25-year-old netted the Australian Open in 2012 and 2013.
Azarenka has 17 career titles in the singles bracket and has received 25% of her 2014 earnings through prize money.
6: Andy Murray (£12.2m)
The two-time major winner will be under pressure to deliver from the partisan Wimbledon crowd this summer, but has tremendous experience having competed in four Australia Open finals, successfully winning the US Open in 2012 and having, of course, won at Wimbledon before.
He also has 34 career titles to his name in singles competition but over 75% of his 2014 earnings came through endorsements and sponsorship.
5: Serena Williams (£13.9m)
Serena Williams is an all-time great in women's tennis having won an astonishing 20 majors, one Olympic gold medal at the 2012 Games and 67 WTA titles, too.
Last year, 50% of her earnings came through winnings, while the other 50% was through endorsements.
4: Maria Sharapova (£15.4m)
One of the most marketable tennis stars, Sharapova has five major wins in her trophy room, combined with a silver medal at the 2012 Olympics and 35 WTA titles in singles competition.
Sharapova is the highest ranking woman on this list but less than £2m came through winnings with the rest made up of sponsorship and endorsements.
3: Novak Djokovic (£21m)
Djokovic is widely considered to be one of the greatest tennis stars not just of his generation, but of all time. The 28-year-old has won 9 Grand Slam singles titles, an Olympic bronze medal and has 53 career titles in the bag.
The split between Djokovic's earnings through endorsements and prize money is approximately 2:1.
2: Rafael Nadal (£28.2m)
Nadal is a clay court master and has nine titles at the French Open, with other major victories at Wimbledon (2), the US Open (2) and the Australian Open. He also has 66 singles trophies.
Like Djokovic, 66% of Nadal's earning power last year was generated through endorsement, with the rest coming through tournament winnings.
1: Roger Federer (£35.5m)
There was only going to be one winner on this list - much like there was only one winner on courts in the 2000s.
Federer has 17 major wins and is gunning for one more at SW19 this summer. He also has a mighty 86 career titles in the Open Era.
Federer's earnings dwarf those of his contemparies but while Azarenka almost receives as much money through on-court triumphs, Federer makes great gains through endorsements
