Nigeria Football Federation president, Amaju Pinnick, has admitted that the Super Eagles have been drawn in a difficult group for the 2018 world cup qualifiers, but said that being the best requires beating the best.
Nigeria are in Group B, alongside 2012 AFCON champions, Zambia, Cameroon and Algeria, who are the current best team in Africa.
The former Delta FA chairman further said that the time to start preparing towards the qualifiers opener on October 3 is now.
The three-time African champions made their debut in 1994, under coach Clemence Westerhof, and have made it to five finals after then.
"It is a tough draw, but then I have always said that you have to beat the best to get to the World Cup. Now we have the draw, we know how to prepare. The preparation has to start right now and we must make good use of every single day leading to the kick –off of the series," Pinnick said.
"The other pools are tough as well, because for me, you can never afford to under –rate any team these days. Now we must quickly sort out the issue of Head Coach and his assistants and put every other thing in place in good time," Pinnick concluded.
Under this present administration, Nigeria hasn't qualified for the African Cup of Nations and we are hoping it won't affect the psyche of the team, who will be watching the 2017 AFCON on television come January next year.
