The Nigeria Referees Association has sacked the referee referee Abiodun Alaba, who was in charge of the match day 23 between MFM FC of Lagos and Shooting Stars of Ibadan with immediate effect.
Alaba's sack came as a result of the violence that disturbed last Sunday's game at the Agege stadium, when 3SC broke MfM's invicibility at home since the kick off of the ongoing season.
The NRA further disclosed that it is fast becoming a seasonal occurence for the Ogun state referee, as it can be recalled that he was suspended for similar case last season.
The fans of the home team felt aggrieved when Gbenga Ogunbote's men scored in the 78th minute, after their player was hacked down in the 18 yard box of Shooting stars.
The association has this to say: "Referee Abiodun Alaba lost absolute control of the NPFL Match No. 223 between MFM FC [Lagos] and Shooting Stars of Ibadan played at the Agege Stadium, Lagos on Sunday, 19 June 2016. He was not able to manage several frustrating antics of players during the match in spite of the helpful support from his assistant referees."
"The Committee recalled that Referee Abiodun Alaba was suspended last season from active refereeing for similar lapses. Since it had become obvious that he is not going to be able to take full advantage of the opportunities offered by the Federation to improve on his art of refereeing in the past one year, the NFF Referees Committee has decided to retire him from active football refereeing with immediate effect," the statement read.
