Some quarters in the glass house have disclosed that the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation are set to sign former French international Paul Le Guen as the coach of the Super Eagles, but are still cash-strapped.
This is contrary to what the 2nd vice president of the NFF, Shehu Dikko, and the chairman of the
NFF technical committee, Barrister Chris Green, both said earlier in the week, saying the team will get a new coach in the next two weeks.
Nigeria, are in group B for the world cup with Algeria, Cameroon and Zambia, and the federation says it will prefer a coach that is knowledgeable about African football, but we are hoping that this will not take forever, most especially when Nigeria hasn't qualified for major tournaments in the last three years.
"The president is the one personally pushing for Le Guen and nothing has been decided as a group by the NFF executives," a top official told AfricanFootball
"At the last technical committee meeting in Abuja, there was very little mention of the Super Eagles coach position as the committee dwelled on the Olympic team and the U17 and U20 teams."
"Both the bank and the oil company that were approached to bankroll the salaries of a foreign coach have not been forthcoming and so there is still no money to pay for such a coach."
Former Cameroon coach Le Guen, 52, is available after he was sacked by Oman in November 2015 after a poor start to qualifying tournament for the 2018 World Cup.
