The IAAF has confirmed that Russian athletes will not be participating in next month's Rio Olympic Games in Brazil due to the degenerated of doping associated with their athletes.
The Athletics body, sighting the McLaren's report of last month also said that Russian Athletics Federation is also suspended until further notice.
Dr Richard McLaren disclosed in his investigation that Russia funded a state-sponsored doping programme for four years across the "vast majority" of Olympic sports.
The doctor added that it was "planned and operated" from late 2011 - including the build-up to London 2012 - and continued through the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics until August 2015.
"The institutionalised and systematic doping in Russian athletics is the reason the IAAF suspended, and then upheld the suspension of, RusAF’s membership and consequently the exclusion of their athletes from international competition," said IAAF President Sebastian Coe.
McLaren provided the IAAF with his preliminary findings which were included in the IAAF Taskforce Report and Recommendation to Council on 17 June 2016.
The IAAF will of course seek further information on the 139 cases mentioned in the McLaren report and cross reference it with its own data.
To the extent that actions have not, or are not, being taken we will obtain the evidence and do any necessary follow up to allow us to take the strongest actions available to us.
This includes all information that has been gathered around the 2013 World Championships as we have in storage in Lausanne the samples sent to the IAAF by the Moscow laboratory.
