Black Stallions captain, Azeez Ladipo, has admitted that they lost to Morocco on the grounds of experience.
The host nation defeated the Nigerian Rugby Team 53-10 at the recently concluded Africa Cup 1C held in Morocco.
The Black Stallions held the Moroccans to a 0-0 point earlier in the game, and Ladipo said regardless of the loss, the team performed well, adding that with much exposure and adequate preparations, they will achieve their desired result- which is moving from Cup 1C to 1B.
"We did well to beat Mauritius. We also started well against Morocco but couldn't keep up the tempo. Could have done better in the scrums and line-outs but we lost it there."
"They are much more experienced, but no doubt. this team performed better than the previous team i have played with. We just need more game time together and maybe one or two additions."
'Yes I was disappointed we didn't dominate the scrums and line-out. Also we could have done better in open play. Move the ball a lot more and put them on the back foot. All the same the team did well in defence and spirit was quite high. I liked that."
We will be up against Zambia, Mauritius and maybe Cameroon next year and we will have no excuse but to move up to 1B. Our focus will now shift to the Africa Cup 7s in Kenya by the end of September. Hopefully we will be able to do better this year.
The technical Director of the NRFF, Olatunji Fasimoye, also commended the team for their exploit in the competition, saying that his side, which is virtually populated by home-based team has shown that there's great future for Rugby in Nigeria.
"I am not surprised about the score, the Morocco side is a very good side, all their players play top rugby in France,"
"I praised the boys for their courage and determination, ‘this boys are all home based players except for two of them who play in South Africa, their performance shows that with the right investment, there is a place for Nigeria rugby on the world map."
