Nigeria U23 coach, Samson Siasia, has described the bronze medal his tutored side won at the just concluded Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil as a ‘golden bronze’, following the series of setback the team faced enroute Brazil.
The Dream Team VI landed at the Murtala Muhammed International
Airport in Lagos on Monday night, and they were welcomed by journalists, some fans, and the Nigerian supporters club.
Siasia, who returned with just a few of the players to Nigeria as most of them joined a connecting flight to their various clubs said the boys gave their best in the process on winning bronze medal for Nigeria.
Here are the few of the players and officials sighted at the arrival of the team in Lagos; Samson Siasia, his assistant, Fatai Amoo, Junior Ajayi, Usman Muhammed, Sincere Seth, Popoola Saliu, Ndifreke Udo, and Emmanuel Daniel.
“We thank God, the bronze medal look like gold.”
“We are happy with the boys, although most of them have gone back to their clubs but we are happy with them with what they have done with such environment and preparations.”
“Rest, Sleep, America”
In the same vein, assistant coach of the team, Fatai Amoo, said that lack of quality preparation marred their chances of repeating the feat the ’96 team achieved in Atlanta, but insisted that the bronze medal isn’t bad afterall.
He said that the team had quality players at the games but their preparation was only enough for a bronze medal and not a gold medal.
“We worked for it and we got it even though our plan was to win gold but we had other teams who were well prepared than us and of course that was where our preparations could take us to, thank God we had quality players, if we had had right preparations in a right atmosphere I believe we would have done better than this.”
