Serbia dumps Mali out of the FIFA U-20 World Cup

At the end of the day, no African country got to the final of this year's FIFA world cup in New Zealand as Serbia defeated Mali in the second semi final of the championship.

Senegal had earlier lost scandalously to Brazil in the early hours of Wednesday five goals to nothing in the 1st semis of the tourney, only for Mali to follow later.

Serbia defeated Mali 2-1 in the extra time of the game after finishing the normal regulation time 1-1 at the North Harbour Stadium in Auckland, New Zealand on Wednesday

Serbians beat Mali twice in the tournament, first in the group stages, but this win has set up a final against Brazil which is set to be hosted in Auckland on Saturday.

Serbia managed to put the Africans under pressure in the dying minutes of the match, however, goalkeeper Djigui was in fine form between the posts to deny them a second goal.

Both sides couldn’t do anything to kill the match as it went to extra-time.

Although extra-time struggled to produce fireworks, it was Serbia who netted just beyond the 100th minute through Saponjic to secure a date against Selecao.

With seconds to play, Serbia nearly made it three when their forward hit the woodwork, but the 2-1 win was enough to send the Africans to the third-place play-off against Senegal.
